Herbal Meditations // Herbal Proving
Do you have a plant ally? An herb that you call on for help and support in need? Herbal allies are those plants that support us like a true friend. Chamomile for easing a tense tummy, Skullcap to calm the nervous system, garlic to ward off immune complaints.
Plants and herbs have so much healing, wisdom and knowledge to share with us.
I invite you to take an herb adventure. Sit down with an herb of your choice. Set an intention and take a moment to pause and reflect. Meditating with herbs in this way is an excellent method to unlock the secrets of what these incredible plants have to share. Holding a warm cup of an herbal tea or elixir, consider the following questions:
Body Effects: Is your herb Hot / Cold / Warm / Dry / Wet?
Energetics: What direction does the herb go? Up (energizing) Down (calming)
Tastes: What taste do you notice? Sweet / Salty / Bitter / Unctuous / Umami / Pungent / Sour / Astringent
Smell: What smell do you receive? What does it remind you of?
Sensation: Where do you feel it in your body?
Visual: Do you receive any visions and messages from this herb?
The taste of an herb can clue you into what action an herb has. Consider sour foods. Oftentimes, like in the case of lemons, limes and amla berries - sour foods will contain vitamin c. Bitter foods, like in herbal bitters you order at a restaurant, will help to support digestion. Sweet foods, like dates, dried figs and raisins - will build tissue and feed the pancreas and spleen.
To learn more about herbal meditations and herbal provings - come check out a class with myself and my fellow herbalist colleague, Corey Gusnowski. We are hosting a gathering at 3rd Eye Meditation Lounge Sunday October 24, 2021 from 5p-6p located in Casa de Luz (https://3rdeyemeditationlounge.com/our-classes)
We will love to sit with you and share herbal knowledge and wisdom passed down to us through our many teachers - most especially, the herbs themselves!
